Abstract

In recent decades, the far right has transitioned from being a peripheral oppositional force to a central player in many political systems (Pirro 2024). This shift is not confined to the political realm; far-right ideologies and narratives increasingly permeate mainstream cultural spaces (Miller-Idriss 2020). As a result, far-right ideas are no longer exclusively owned by populist radical right parties; they are now woven into the fabric of everyday life, reshaping cultural norms and legitimating extremist perspectives in subtle yet profound ways. This panel seeks to explore the cultural dimension of the rise and normalisation of far-right ideologies beyond formal politics. We invite papers that examine how far-right discourses and aesthetics manifest in everyday practices and spaces, thereby contributing to their societal legitimacy and reach. Possible topics include, but are not limited to: • The dissemination of far-right narratives into popular culture, such as music, literature, and art • The cultural politics of food and lifestyle movements tied to far-right ideologies • The use of social media, memes, and digital platforms to mainstream far-right ideas • Intersections of far-right culture with gender, race, and class • Resistance and counterculture: how communities respond to and contest the cultural normalisation of the far right
