Abstract

What causes the emergence and success of female candidates for political office? This panel examines the circumstances around candidates emergence for political office, including how women decide to run for office, how political parties can support women in office, how contextual factors like corruption can encourage women in office, and the importance of understanding feminist attitudes and feminists in political office. The papers on the panel approach these questions from multiple disciplines, using a variety of methods from qualitative to quantitative to experimental, and evaluate women across a broad spectrum of countries.
