We are vibrant subject area, with over 35 permanent members of staff and a dynamic group of post-doctoral research, and visiting fellows. We are based in a lively capital city, with an internationally esteemed list of faculty. In the last research assessment exercise 45 per cent of our research in Politics and International Studies was rated internationally excellent, with a further 10 per cent rated as world-leading, placing us in the UK top 10. Staff in PIR have always sought to reach audiences beyond academia, to facilitate dialogue, inform public debate and effect change. That engagement is long standing. In the 1980s Edinburgh professor John Erickson launched the ‘Edinburgh Conversations’ with military generals and journalists, which provided an opportunity for conversations on arms control and reduction of East West tensions. They continue to provide a model for how academics can conduct policy relevant research. Our current staff have advised Scottish and UK governments, the European Commission, and international organisations, they have served on government commissions, and offered expert testimony to organisations like the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank as well as the British military. We have a world-leading reputation in four research areas: 1. Territorial politics and federalism We offer the world’s largest collection of scholars working on comparative and UK territorial politics. 2. European politics Edinburgh is an acknowledged international centre of excellence for teaching and research on European politics. 4. Political theory and international ethics Our work in political theory and the ethics of public and international affairs is recognised as world class. C We also have research groups on International Political Economy, and on Gender, for example, and participate in School-wide research groups on Public Policy, Migration and Citizenship, Environment and Society and Quantitative Methods. Our geographic focus also cuts across each of these larger themes. We have particular strengths in European, Middle East and African Politics. Staff lead the Europa Institute (along with the School of Law), are involved with the Centre for the Advanced Study of the Arab World (CASAW) and the Centre of African Studies. Staff also run or are part of networks of scholars with the Centre of Canadian Studies and the Princess Dashkova Centre. We also help to run larger Institutes and Academies such as the Just World Institute, the Academy of Government and the Global Justice Academy and the Global Environment and Society Academy.

Re-established in 1994, the University of Erfurt has a strong focus on the humanities, cultural studies, and the social sciences. Its research profile is distinguished by interdisciplinary approaches to understanding cultural, religious, and societal transformation processes. Located in the historic capital of Thuringia with around 5,700 students, around 100 professorships and around 400 academic staff and 300 administrative staff, the University of Erfurt offers a vibrant and accessible environment for international scholars. It is made up of four faculties, has two professional schools based on the American model – the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy and the Erfurt School of Education – and one Institute for Advanced Studies, the Max Weber Center for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies.

Studying politics and international relations in the Department of Government at the University of Essex at any level puts students in contact with some of the most prominent political scientists in the UK.

Exeter Politics is one of the largest and most thematically diverse political science and international relations departments in the UK covering all major subfields in the disciplines. Our mission is to lead in defining and shaping the key intellectual agenda in politics and international studies through a research environment that values intellectual excellence, collaboration, inclusivity, diversity, and co-production of knowledge with users and stakeholders. Department of Political Science is located in the Campus Haga, in central Gothenburg. It employs more than 100 teachers, researchers and graduate students. About 1,000 students per academic year studying at our different courses and programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The University of Haifa is a public research university located on Mount Carmel in Haifa, Israel. Founded in 1963, the University of Haifa received full academic accreditation in 1972, becoming Israel's sixth academic institution and the fourth university. The university has the largest university library in Israel.

The University of Helsinki is a public university in Helsinki, Finland. The university was founded in Turku in 1640 as the Royal Academy of Åbo under the Swedish Empire, and moved to Helsinki in 1828 under the sponsorship of Tsar Alexander I.

The Department of Political Science at the University of Hildesheim, Germany, is part of the Institute of Social Sciences. It is renowned for its strong focus on interdisciplinary research and teaching, fostered by a collaborative academic environment that bridges social sciences, the humanities, cultural studies, and more. The department places strong emphasis on emerging research fields such as digitization, migration, amongst others.

The University of Houston is a Carnegie Tier-1 Research University located in a cosmopolitan and dynamic port city. The University attracts students and faculty from all over the world. Its diverse student body has earned it the official designation of being an "Hispanic Serving University", one of a handful of top -tier research universities to hold this designation. The University of Houston's Political Science Department offers doctoral and master's degrees with concentrations in American Politics, Judicial Behavior, Comparative Politics, and Political Theory.

We are a public university based in Czechia offering a general Political Science program at the undergraduate level and uniquely specialized programs in Latin American Politics and African Politics at the Masters and PhD levels. Our political science department has a strong international component in both teaching and collaborative research.
