Re-established in 1994, the University of Erfurt has a strong focus on the humanities, cultural studies, and the social sciences. Its research profile is distinguished by interdisciplinary approaches to understanding cultural, religious, and societal transformation processes. Located in the historic capital of Thuringia with around 5,700 students, around 100 professorships and around 400 academic staff and 300 administrative staff, the University of Erfurt offers a vibrant and accessible environment for international scholars. It is made up of four faculties, has two professional schools based on the American model – the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy and the Erfurt School of Education – and one Institute for Advanced Studies, the Max Weber Center for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies.
