The main question about regional organizations is: why do various organizations such as ASEAN, ECOWAS or CARICOM have a variety of similar institutions and identical policies? A simple answer is that policy solutions have developed in the context of regional integration diffusion. But the answer has to be examined in a much more complex way. The paper describes the impact of European Integration process on the ASEAN. Since the implementation of the ASEAN-Charter in 2007, which ‘download’ important parts of the EU’s structure, there is a convergence between those two organizations. The specific analysis of several policy areas is currently inadequate. It is necessary to reflect in a step two specific policies: security and social policy. Aspects of normative pressure, imitation and legitimization should be analyzed in the context auf regional integration and the idea of a world polity.
