This panel will address how national parliaments in particular, but also domestic parties, have engaged in democratic representation since the Euro crisis. Has their room of manoeuvre been diminished, by ‘emergency Europe’ type discourses and governance mechanisms, or have they been able to adapt to the pressure of politicisation by using existing representation and scrutiny mechanisms and possibly introducing new ones? Are parties still trying to hide their internal differences as regards the EU, or has the recent wave of politicisation rendered this strategy impossible? The contributions to this panel will elicit these questions empirically and cover new empirical ground.
