This panel marks the recent publication of “Democracy and the Cartelization of Political Parties” by Richard Katz and Peter Mair, which is the first book-length treatment of their argument about the changing roles of political parties in contemporary politics. Panelists will respond to various aspects of the Cartel Party argument as presented in this book, reflecting on past research on the Cartel Party theme, and on ways in which the new book might inspire future research.
