Abstract

These papers explore the securitization of information and economic environments after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The European Union banned Russian broadcasters RT and Sputnik, while European media adopted new narratives about Russia and Ukraine. EU governments gave greater weight to the security-conscious approach of Central and East European member states towards Russia, while the war increased allegiance to a securitizing EU among mass publics. Meanwhile, Russia also securitized its approach to its "shared neighbourhood" with the EU.
