Abstract

Public controversies over issues such as global warming, novel biotechnologies and pandemics point to the political relevance of knowledge, information, scientific expertise and research and in recent years, epistemological questions have gained prominence in the political debate. What knowledge is relevant to democratic politics? What is the role of experts and the political relevance epistemic deference? What are the epistemic virtues required from voters? This panel discusses, among other problems, issues of technocracy, epistemic injustice and opinion polarisation.
