The democratisation of Higher Education has succeeded: today in Europe more students than ever before are going into higher education. In the EU-28, nearly 20 million students study at higher education institutions, nearly a third in the field of social sciences. At the same time, higher education seems to be the subject of ongoing debate: its relevance for society and the economy, its management, and its financing.
The 4th edition of the European Conference on Teaching and Learning Politics, International Relations and European Studies (EuroTLC), organised by our Standing Group on Teaching and Learning Politics, discussed the added value of higher education for students and societies. Underpinned by the overarching theme of ‘Salience of Higher Education in the 21st Century: Learning to Think Academically’, the Conference provided a virtual platform for over 250 scholars to present and discuss their work in an interactive setting that inspired new ideas, and provided room for reflection.
It was a great pleasure it was to finally meet all of our fantastic participants online. Especially in these unsettling times, exchanging with so many proactive, creative and collaborative learning enthusiasts was a truly encouraging experience.
We already look forward to our 2022 edition! Stay tuned with our website and social media for further updates.
