DI.S.PI. -‐ Department of International and Political Science -‐ was established by Rectoral Decree No 121 of 24 April 2012 as an autonomous organizational structure of the University of Genoa. The Department is managed by Prof. Daniela Preda, assisted by the deputy director, Prof. Enrico Di Bella, and by the administrative secretary, Giovanni Bellocchio. The Department organizes and promotes study and research in the following areas: Foreign languages, political thought, anthropological sciences, economic sciences, geographical sciences, juridical sciences, political sciences, sociological sciences, historical sciences. DISPI has activated numerous Research Centres and Laboratories: CIRAM -‐ Interdepartmental Centre for Research on the Americas, CeSMO -‐ Centre for Management and Organizational Studies, Centre for Studies on "Law and Local Economics", Observatory on Conflicts, ODIGE -‐ Observatory on gender rights and non-‐discrimination, Observatory on religious and migratory phenomena, OssPol – Political Observatory. DISPI offers two three-‐year Degree Programs ("Political and Administration Sciences", "International and Diplomatic Sciences") and three Master's Degree Programs ("Administration and Public Policies", "International Sciences and Cooperation", "News, Media and Publishing"). At the Department various Postgraduate programs are active: the first-‐level Professional Master’s Programme in "Innovation in the Public Administration"; the second-‐level Professional Master’s Programme in "Expert in meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions"; the university specialization courses for local police (first training and service license, police services, sea police, emergency psychiatry); the vocational training course in Human Rights. DISPI is part of the PhD in Social Sciences (Head office for the University of Genoa -‐ DISFOR) and is responsible for the management of the curriculum in Political Science. It also participates in the PhD in Economics and Political Economy (Head office for the University of Genoa -‐ DIEC) and the Inter-‐university PhD program in Political Studies -‐ PhD in Political Studies (Head office University of Milan). The department is actively engaged in national, European and international research programs. It collaborates with numerous Italian and European universities, EU institutions, universities and institutions from other countries. It participates in public engagement initiatives with local authorities, regions and state administrations. Research areas DISPI carries out research activities in 5 scientific-‐disciplinary areas: Area 10 -‐ Sciences of antiquity, philology and literature and artistic history; Area 11 -‐ Historical, philosophical and pedagogical sciences; Area 12 -‐ Legal sciences; Area 13 -‐ Economic and statistical Sciences; Area 14 -‐ Political and social sciences. The activity of the Department focuses mainly on socio-‐political and international studies, with particular reference to the European construction in its historical, legal, economic and political aspects. The cultural heterogeneity of the Department, which includes more than 20 sectors, allows multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research to be carried out. DISPI has a strong international vocation, starting from the activation of the three-‐year Degree Programs in International and Diplomatic Sciences and Master's Degree in International and Cooperation Sciences (in which the Spanish and English curricula deserve special attention). The agreements with foreign Universities for Erasmus and Cinda exchanges go together with the organization and participation in international and European conferences and numerous publications with foreign authors. Some research of the Department is financed by the European Commission, other by the State and Ministries, by the Regions and by Local Authorities. International projects are mainly included in the frameworks for European research Erasmus+ Program, Jean Monnet Activities and Justice Program, but also within the 7th Framework Program and Horizon 2020. The activity of the Department is very lively in third mission and public engagement projects, in a plurality of initiatives aimed at local civil society: work experience; information and awareness raising on Europe, democracy and legality in schools (sometimes even with funded projects, e.g. "HopEurope"); scientific technical support for the reorganization of local public administrations; participation in urban regeneration projects and the Genoese metropolitan area.
