Abstract

The literature on organised interests and civil society in the EU is now mature. Yet there remain pockets of little, dated, or no coverage, and priority will be given to Panels/Papers which propose to meet this gap. Examples would include: the role of organised interests with the Council of Ministers and Permanent Representations; judicial activism by organised interests in the ECJ; the role of Trade Unions in the EU policy process; Social Dialogue; Public Affairs consultancies and law firms; the role of NGO ‘houses’ in promoting coalition formation; the role of organised civil society in trilogues; and the role of organized interests with the technical standards bodies. Priority will also be given to Panels/Papers which can demonstrate a link to contemporary controversies, such as the role of organised civil society in climate action/climate change policies, as well as outstanding controversies in the literature, such as whether NGOs are more successful than business in achieving their goals, or whether organised interests create or follow EU policy agendas.
