Religious-secular struggles appear in the past decade to occupy a major role in different spheres of political life. Economic, social and demographic changes associated with globalization and neo-liberalism both present challenges and provide new incentives and opportunities for secular and religious entrepreneurs seeking to shape the public sphere. The struggles between religious and secular occur at different realms – local, national and global – and involve different goals and strategies. The purpose of this section is to bring together scholars engaged with different aspect of religious-secular struggles, theoretical and empirical, and different case studies to present their work.
