Abstract

This paper analyses the vote of police officers in extreme right parties. Because, insecurity and crime are strongly rooted in the political discourse and agenda setting of the extreme-right that, at the same time, has an intense position to bolster national security forces, it is growing the support of the police for these approaches. We examine this demand- supply interaction and test vote variation by inquiring 282 Portuguese police officers, both from GNR (work in rural areas) and PSP (responsible in urban regions), to know how and why they casted the vote in the two last legislative elections in 2022 and 2024.
