Abstract

The research displays the dynamics of socio-political participation in Ukraine amidst the polycrisis conditions of the post-COVID era and the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war. Grounded in a case-study approach, supported by sociological methods, including an All-Ukrainian survey, the study examines the interplay between civil society and state interests against the backdrop of Ukraine’s evolving political culture. The research is structured into three components: the forms of self-organization, including Territorial Defense and volunteering; engagement in ensuring economic and social resilience through International Humanitarian Organizations and charitable activities; and the role of media and social media in wartime communication. The findings highlight the counter-version practices of participation that emerge from the interaction of civil society and the state, underscoring their often-controversial interests. These practices reflect a significant shift in the understanding of the roles and responsibilities of both actors in addressing socio-political challenges. The conclusions reveal how social capital fosters political cohesion and stability, demonstrating the critical role of democratic support and collective resilience in navigating polycrisis conditions. This study contributes to understanding the transformation of socio-political participation in wartime Ukraine, providing insights into the implications for democracy and political stability.
