Abstract

This paper examines the relationship between economic inequality and lobbying power, focusing on how disproportionate financial resources among industry actors shape regulatory outcomes in the Czech energy sector. Drawing upon both quantitative and qualitative data, the research illustrates how dominant energy conglomerates leverage their superior economic assets to influence decision-makers, intensifying their regulatory advantages and market positioning. In-depth interviews with policymakers, industry stakeholders, and civil society representatives, as well as an analysis of legislative records, reveal the mechanisms through which resource-rich companies secure favorable legislation—often at the expense of smaller competitors and the broader public interest. The study argues that financial clout and the absence of a lobbying law facilitate more effective lobbying strategies, creating asymmetrical access to information, policymakers, and decision-making processes. As a result, regulatory frameworks tend to reinforce existing inequalities, limiting the competitive landscape and inhibiting innovation and sustainability efforts. By situating these findings within broader theoretical discussions on the intersection of economic inequality and political influence, this paper highlights the need for policy reforms that enhance transparency, accountability, and inclusivity. The conclusion underscores the importance of reducing lobbying barriers for underrepresented groups and developing balanced regulatory guidelines that promote fair competition, ultimately suggesting that leveling the playing field is essential for the Czech energy industry's long-term stability and equitable development.
