Abstract

The paper will focus on the use of the method of academic debate in legal education. Research on the effectiveness of academic debate will focus on increasing student's activity in class. Furthermore, we will present the complexity of preparation for the academic debate from the teacher's point of view and from the students' point of view. Subsequently, we will evaluate whether the academic debate is a suitable teaching method for 2nd year students at law faculties. As a research question, I chose the following question - "Is it possible through academic debate to teach students to critically evaluate legislation and to think de lege ferenda?" The research will be carried out within the subject Civil Procedural Law. We will implement it in three of the five study groups, then answer the research question in relation to the groups that have completed the academic debate and compare the level of critical thinking of the groups that did not attend the academic debate and who did.
