Abstract

In my paper I will expose the importance of representing values and argue that a perceived lack of representing them might lead to a crisis of democracy (or a representative political system). Second I explore the extent to which citizens feel represented regarding values. Here I use a more complex and detailed approach than the liberal-conservative-dimension that is utilized in several studies: In reference to Schwartz (1992) I map the distribution of values in France and Germany. Finally I analyse if and to which extent people feel represented by parliament regarding the diverse values detected before.
