How has the international civil service been researched so far and what are the possible future avenues for research? Through a systematic review of the literature, this paper highlights four shortcomings in the research on the international civil service. In the second part of the paper, I suggest a research agenda composed of three main axes in order to reinvigorate the research in this field.
