Legislative turnover is usually investigated at the legislative chamber level. This, nevertheless, has the consequence of watering down the effects of party level explanatory factors as they tend to cancel each other out at the aggregate level. Following the suggestion of Francois and Grossman (2015) and most recently Gouglas, Maddens and Brans (2016) the paper focuses on the effects of political groups on legislative turnover in 8 west European lower chambers after 152 general elections in the period from 1945 to 2015.
