In general, this presentation will critically assess the role of the social sciences in the context of post-communist politics. It will focus on the self-perception of political science in relation to the newly established democratic regime. In particular, this contribution will trace both the successes of Czech political science as well as persistent problems that have characterized the discipline since its founding in 1990. Based on original data obtained from both the Czech departments of political science and its disciplinary journals, the presentation will focus on the prevailing research practices and publication strategies of Czech political scientists.
