The “Austrian School” of economics has been highly influential in the development of neoliberal ideas, yet how these ideas play out in Austrian politics and policy debates has been surprisingly neglected. Austria has recently witnessed a rise in think tank policy activism with the launch of new foundations, nearly all of them on the conservative side of the Austrian political spectrum, and with some explicitly dedicated to the dissemination in the tradition of the Austrian school of economics. The paper examines if and to what extent the change in economic policies and debates in Austria can be attributed to the new think tanks entering the field. This paper focuses on three Austrian neoliberal/neoconservative think tanks (Hayek Institute, Eco Austria and Agenda Austria) and evaluates their development strategies, policy positions and networks, within Austria, and how they are integrated into wider epistemic communities and think tank networks
