Abstract

This paper aims to measure and compare the Performance of Public Leadership of the Latin American Presidents since 2003 to 2013. Using Strangio, Hart and Walter´s (2013) purpose of analysis, the main objective is taking an objective approach to leadership exploring, on one hand, their institutional and contextual “power chances” and, on the other hand, their particular personal and stylistic qualities. In order to that, the main explicative variables to take into account are, firstly, the institutional parameters of capital vary, as party and constitutional rules, political culture and political climate. Secondly, their skills, the relation to their supporters and their appeal to electorates. As a consequence, it will be possible to distinguish between different kinds of leadership trajectories: “rock solid” leaders, meteoric leaders, inconsequential leaders, withering leaders and come back leaders. About methodology, this investigations combines qualitative and quantitative strategies.
