This session aims to discuss the challenge of teaching critical perspectives of analysis on the Middle East (especially, postcolonialism) to graduate students that might feel they are being ‘brainwashed’. It is hypothesised that understanding the source of students’ contention correctly is necessary for improved course designs in which critical perspectives are secured their analysis-enabling status. The session will also address the challenges in developing a core course on perspectives of European governance in an international and multi-disciplinary classroom. How to secure coherence, consistency, and progression while exposing the several perspectives at play.
