Abstract

Even though European Union has become normalized as a form of governing, the various tensions and disputes of ‘Europe’ and European integration still remain. Different approaches and interpretations are present in the current narratives. They relate to heritage, memory and history and how they are used politically in debates about constructions of European identity, polity and citizenship. Especially the relation to nation states’ narratives is frequently contested. Also the recent developments of European heritage policies attempt to create official conceptions of European past and “roots”. Related to these themes, this interdisciplinary panel invites papers that explore the conceptual and discursive changes in the discussions pertaining to European integration. Both theoretical and empirical approaches are welcome.
