Abstract

Welfare states face major challenges and constraints: austerity, neoliberalism, demographic change, changing gender roles. This sense of permanent crisis obliges welfare states to adapt, experiment and innovate. This panel showcases and assesses some new approaches and paradigms that have emerged in recent years to address such challenges.
