Abstract

The concept of gender regime has been introduced to characterize the totality of gender structures, gender relations and gendered institutions. There have been many different attempts to construct such concepts for use in research at different scales of analysis, from country to specific institution. The concept of gender regime has been applied to an overall country level, or to particular institutions, such as the political gender regime (policy and polity), the family, the economy or even the street. Welfare state models or models of male dominance are other concepts used in contemporary feminist research. The purpose of this panel is to discuss the development of various regime concepts or other systemic concepts, which are or can be applied in comparative research over time or between countries or regions.
