Over the last decades, interest groups have built up increasingly professionalized organizations. Among the prime functions of these organizations is political communication – that is attempts at communicating the views of groups in a way that enhances the chance that the message is well-received by the media as well as by decision makers. This panel addresses several issues related to interest groups and political communication. It includes theoretical considerations of how best to conceptualize and understand the strategic work of groups as well as empirical studies of different aspects of group communication. The panel proposal includes three papers, while additional papers are to be added based on individual paper submissions to the section.
