Abstract

The aim of the panel is twofold. (1) Firstly, to provide an insight into the existing research on interest groups in young democracies around the world as well as to build a sound basis for critical academic debate on the segmentation of comparative research into interest groups within the framework of 'old democracies', 'Southern Europe', 'Eastern Europe' etc. (2) Secondly, to initiate brainstorming on the possible theoretical and methodological approaches that could overcome this segmentation, which would enable more fruitful comparative research beyond the existing and often artificial research boundaries.
