Mixed Method Designs are as old as empirical social science itself. Only in the past decade, however, and due in part to the tremendous specialization of qualitative and quantitative methods over the past fifty years, have researchers begun to examine more carefully the possibilities and limits of mixed method designs. Currently of particular interest to the social science community are issues concerning epistemology, sampling design, compatibility of data, and compatibility of results. In this panel, we will examine advanced topics in relation to these issues.
