108

Abstract

The very much improved availability, accessibility and reliability of comparative data on political corruption has set off a wave of research into the sources and consequences of corruption. This panel will analyze especially the (economic) consequences of corruption: does it hinder growth? Does it lower foreign direct investment? Does it decrease a countries’ competitiveness? How does it affect trading relationships - do more corrupt countries tend to trade with other more corrupt countries? Is there a nexus between corruption and economic structure, for instance with respect to state owned enterprises?
