Abstract

[Panel in Portuguese] This panel examines how gender, race, and political representation are contested within contemporary Brazilian democracy. Bringing together debates on electoral politics, conservative mobilization, decolonial feminist thought, and institutional inequalities, the papers investigate how formal advances in inclusion coexist with persistent barriers to power and ideological disputes over representation. The panel addresses topics such as affirmative policies in municipal elections, the political trajectories of conservative Black women, decolonial critiques of Western constructions of gender, and struggles for motherhood-inclusive policies in academia. By connecting institutional dynamics, epistemological debates, and democratic backsliding, the panel explores how gendered and racialized power relations shape political participation and access to power in Brazil.
