Abstract

This online workshop features two research presentations on gender dynamics in France and Ghana. Alice Lechat (Paris 1-Panthéon-Sorbonne University) will discuss epistemological and methodological issues of research positioning within the framework of an ethnographic study on the institutionalisation of gender budgeting in the City of Paris. Cécile Poitevin (University of Bonn) will explore gender power dynamics in smallholders’ adaptation to climate change in Ghana. She uses ethnographic methods, including photovoice, to analyse the impact of gender-based violence on smallholders’ women and men agency as well as the decision-making process in Ghana. The presentations will be followed by a discussion led by Carin Tunåker (University of Kent). Carin is a lecturer of law, social anthropologist and ethnographer, with experience working with local communities and disadvantaged populations, particularly the homeless.
