How do populism and Euroscepticism intersect in the field of foreign policy? The two fields of Euroscepticism and foreign policy studies have by now provided an abundant literature on how either phenomenon influences external relations of countries. Euroscepticism by definition concerns states' relationship with an external (albeit encompassing) actor, the EU, and there is a flourishing research programme on populism and foreign policy. Yet the two phenomena are rarely studied in tandem when analyzing their impact on foreign policy. This panel aims to contribute to the literature with contributions studying the interplay of Eurosceptic and populist ideas in the rhetoric, policies and practices of parties contesting both their countries' relationship with the EU and their place in the world.
