Abstract

The aim of this panel is to contribute to a nuanced understanding of how immigration shapes political landscapes in Europe. The relation between immigration, class dynamics, political participation and representation in Europe has become increasingly significant, especially in the context of shifting social boundaries and welfare policies. Thus, it is crucial to recognize the complex interplay between economic conditions, social identities, and political commitment, suggesting that the integration of immigrant communities into the political sphere is a key challenge for fostering social solidarity and democratic stability. As Europe continues to grapple with immigration, the insights drawn from these analyses provide essential perspectives on the challenges and opportunities that arise in the context of increasing diversity and changing socio-political dynamics. The panel welcomes comparative- and case-studies.
