Abstract

To what extent do parliaments engage with the wider public to overcome challenges of distrust and apathy? Policies and talking points in debates are not the only way parliaments are fulfilling their mission to represent the citizens: direct contact is also immensely valuable when it comes to building trust and value in a given political system. This can be done by the parliament itself, or by individual MPs in the context of constituency work. This panel looks into these initiatives, and what their effects are.
