The politics of reproductive rights have long constituted a contested domain, deeply embedded within broader struggles for gender equality and social justice. Yet, these rights are less frequently analyzed through the impact of intersecting politics which shape public health outcomes. Recent developments worldwide underscore not only the persistent challenges to advancing reproductive justice but also the increasingly interlinked nature of opposition to reproductive rights with other regressive political agendas. This panel will critically examine the complex intersections between the politics of reproductive rights, gender, and public health, providing comparative insights from diverse regional and thematic contexts. This panel brings together four papers that examine the politics of reproductive rights through distinct yet interrelated lenses. These papers explore: issue framing in Poland around reproductive health policy; advocacy strategies around reproductive justice policymaking in Chile; broader ideological alignments linking opposition to reproductive rights, climate change and pandemic measures; and agency, medical authority and digital technologies in care systems targeting women’s health. By analysing the intersection of these global issues which impact health, the panel will provide a rich and interdisciplinary exploration of these critical issues. This panel contributes to the broader understanding of how reproductive rights are shaped by political and ideological dynamics. By examining diverse regional contexts and thematic intersections, the panel offers a nuanced analysis of the challenges and opportunities for advancing reproductive justice in a rapidly evolving global landscape involving rising authoritarianism and attacks on democracy, which impacts health and rights globally. As threats to reproductive rights intensify, it is imperative to understand the broader intersecting forces that aim to weaken global health policy and decision-making. This panel will underscore the need for strategic, collaborative responses to safeguard reproductive justice and ensure equitable health outcomes worldwide. By addressing the intersecting politics of gender and health, the panel aims to contribute to the development of more resilient and inclusive frameworks for advancing rights and justice in an increasingly interconnected global landscape.
