Abstract

The far right has become a global phenomenon, gaining ground in political and electoral arenas around the world. Correspondingly, scholarly interest in studying far-right political forces has grown significantly, addressing both the supply and demand dimensions. However, most of this research has focused on the Global North, particularly in the context of liberal democracies in Western Europe. This panel seeks to bring together studies from Europe and Latin America to examine the rise and consolidation of the far right in these regions, highlighting their similarities and differences and identifying legacies and patterns, with the aim of improving theoretical and empirical insights into the dynamics of extremism and democracy globally.
