In December 2021, the European Commission together with the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy launched the Global Gateway. The aspiration is to mobilise up to €300 billion in investments between 2021 and 2027 for sustainable and high-quality projects in developing countries, while creating opportunities for the EU Member States’ private sector and, indirectly, countering the rise of China as a leader in global infrastructure development. Against this background, this Panel discusses the origins of the Global Gateway and its implications of the Global Gateway for the EU’s relations with Africa and Latin America countries.
