Intersectionality is a fast-growing field of study with unresolved theoretical and methodological issues. This panel comprises papers which deal with intersectional theoretical and methodological approaches in qualitative and quantitative research. Some of the contributions address questions pertaining to the role of everyday life and storytelling in building intersectional alliances and to the intricate relationship between politics, exclusion and movement or migration. Yet others point to methodological shortcomings in current research, suggesting that quantitative surveys should be complemented by qualitative methods which consider the various intersectional positions of and discrepancies between women when examining gender gaps in political behavior, explore how the sequence and wording of demographic questions related of sex and gender impact participants answers and willingness to complete a survey, and introduce computational methods to study the intersectional construction of the Muslim “other” in social media.
