When the world economy was recovering from the Great Financial Crisis a decade ago, the moment was often described as a watershed in the postwar economic and political history. While it is too early for conclusions, it is clear that the time of the COVID-19 pandemic will prove to be of similar importance. The panel aims at addressing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on multilateral global governance mechanisms. The panel assumes that the pandemic increased the levels of uncertainty and inequality in the world economy and politics, and similarly to the Global Financial Crisis of 2007-2008 contributed major changes in global governance mechanisms. By addressing multiple challenges to global economic governance and global politics the panel aims at providing a multi-disciplinary analysis contributing to the debate on the crisis of multilateralism in global governance as well as the growing levels of inequality and uncertainty in the global system.
