Abstract

While the demand-side of populist radical right (PRR) party persistence and success has been extensively explored, the supply-side as concerns the internal organizations of these parties remains relatively overlooked. In particular, beyond studies based on official party documentation and externally visible features, we know little about who their grassroots members are, what membership entails, and how their organizations are evolving. Moreover, there is a scarcity of research which investigates party organizations from an internalist perspective, whether through interviews, surveys, or other methods. This panel presents four papers, all based on extensive fieldwork, that seek to help us understand the organizational trajectories of contemporary PRR parties across Europe, from how their youth wings are developing, to their increasing international contacts, to how the stigmatization of such parties affects the participation of grassroots members.
