Abstract

Feminist scholarship has provided significant findings on the gendered and intersectional effects of government response to the COVID-19 crisis, suggesting that the crisis management has generally aggravated existing social inequalities for minoritized groups. This panel brings together empirical evidence from different national and regional contexts including the Czech Republic, Finland, Mali, and Taiwan regarding the various government responses to the COVID-19 crisis. The contributions critically assess the impact of these responses on gender equality against the backdrop of the respective societal and institutional context and point to the inherently gendered, racialized, and classed nature of these responses. While some contributions focus on government policies in the narrow sense, others engage in the exploring the discursive governing of the crisis and on the ongoing discursive negotiations over political priorities during the pandemic more broadly.
