Abstract

Border-crossing movement is increasingly regulated by border-crossing norms. Conflicts arise when domestic claims to self-determination clash with norms of international law or principles of multilateral institutional co-operation. What are the entitlements of nation states within the global order? Can they withdraw form membership in multilateral organisations or re-interpret human rights according to their needs and standards? At what point do claims or duties of international intervention arise?
