Venue

Our collaboration with the UNODC is unique and we are proud to be contributing to the Education for Justice (E4J) Initiative. The UNODC is located in Vienna, on the premises of the Vienna International Centre (VIC).

VIC’s impressive modern setting has been home to numerous international organisations since 23 August 1979. At the invitation of the Government of Austria, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) established their headquarters in Vienna in 1957 and 1967, respectively. In the 1970s, the Government provided a permanent residence for those two organisations: the Vienna International Centre (VIC). The VIC complex, which covers an area of 180,000 m², has extraterritorial status.  The VIC comprises about 4,500 offices and 9 conference rooms and accommodates about 3,600 international civil servants from more than 100 countries. 

All participants of the Winter School will go through a security registration process and will be provided a badge to enter the VIC for the entire duration of the programme.

Food and drink

There is a large cafeteria on the premises of Vienna International Center (VIC). The menu is different every day and offers a wide range of international hot and cold foods. There are also several coffee bars on the premises, namely on the 2nd, 4th and 7th floors. The prices are affordable both in the cafeteria and coffee bars. There are also vending machines on the ground floor for drinks and snacks.

WiFi

You can access free Wi-Fi on the premises of the VIC. 

Tourist information

The Tourist Information offices have several locations in Vienna, including Albertinaplatz, Vienna Airport, and Vienna Main Station (Hauptbahnhof). 

Visas

If you are a citizen of a country in the European Union, you do not need a Visa to enter Austria.  Citizens from Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Norway and the USA (plus many other countries) do not require to a Visa, if the stay does not exceed 90 days. We suggest you check the current visa requirements for your country in advance.

Banks

Most banks are open from 09:00-16:00 on weekdays. They are closed on Saturdays and Sundays, but ATM machines can be accessed at most branches at any time.  There is an ATM on the premises of the VIC.

Plugs – Standard European socket with two-pin plugs.

Tipping

In restaurants and bars it is usual to tip around 10-15% if you are happy with the service. However, tipping is uncommon in hotels.
