By air

Vienna International Airport (VIE)

Approximately 18 km from the city centre, Vienna's international airport is serviced by conventional and low-cost carriers including Air France, EasyJet, Eurowings, KLM, Lufthansa, SWISS, Turkish Airlines, Wizz and others. Find cheap flights at Skyscanner.

From the airport, take the City Airport Train (CAT)

With a journey time of only 16 minutes, the CAT is the fastest way to travel to the city centre. The CAT operates daily from 05:37 to 23:39, 365 days a year. The City Air Terminal is located in walking distance (10 minutes) from St. Stephan's Cathedral at Wien Mitte station and can be reached easily by tram, underground, bus or taxi. The CAT costs €12.00 for a single ticket or €21.00 for a return.

Taxi options

Getting a VIE taxi will cost approx. €36.00 and will take approximately 20 minutes to reach the downtown area of Vienna.

Bus connections

Buses to the city centre (Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz) run 24 hours a day and the journey time is approx. 20 minutes. Prices start from €8 for a single journey.

By train

Vienna is the main railway hub of Central Europe and connections to other Austrian and European cities are frequent and punctual. The main railway station is called Wien Hauptbahnhof (Wein Hbf) and is located 10 minutes by subway from the historic centre, in the south part of the city.

The second largest station is located in the west called Wien Westbahnhof. This station is the main terminal of WestBahn and is mainly used by commuters and the Intercity service which connects the capital to Salzbburg.

By bus

By car

Austria has an excellent network of motorways, expressways and federal highways. Tolls are compulsory on all motorways and expressways and you will need a vignette to use Vienna's city motorways. Some of Vienna's districts are short-stay parking zones only.

In districts 1 to 9 and 20, you will need to purchase parking tickets from Monday to Friday (except on public holidays) between 09:00 and 22:00
In districts 12 and 14 to 18, short-stay parking zones apply from Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) from 09:00 to 19:00
Around the Vienna Stadthalle in the 15th district, tickets must be purchased for the short-stay parking zone, which operates from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 22:00
On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, a parking ticket is needed between 18:00 and 22:00
