Further information
The Academic Programme will be organised in the format of Sections and Panels. Each Section will contain a variety of Panels in a given field. There will also be an Open Section, consisting of standalone Panels and Papers which do not necessarily fit within any of the approved Sections. The programme will be very broad, with Sections covering all the main areas of political science, including Comparative Politics, Public Policy and Public Administration, Political Theory, International Relations and European Studies.
There is a two-stage process for submitting proposals to the Academic Programme:
Call for Sections: 15 September – 15 November 2017 (midnight UK time)
Call for full Panels and individual Papers: 1 December 2017 – 15 February 2018 (midnight UK time)
All Panel proposals must include 3–5 Papers. (Papers submitted as part of a Panel do not need to be resubmitted individually.) There will not be a separate call for Papers. Anyone wishing to propose a Paper individually will need to propose it to a specific Section. If approved, the Section Chair will then allocate it to an appropriate Panel. The process for submitting Section, Panel and Paper proposals can be found on How to Participate.
Anyone from an ECPR member institution may organise a Section. Co‑Chairs may come from Full, Associate or non-member institutions. Check your institution's membership status here.
All proposals to organise Sections must be in English, and submitted online using the form on the ECPR website.
Before completing the form, please note:
Academic Convenors use the following criteria to evaluate Sections:
All Section proposals Sections must be submitted online by 15 November 2017. The Academic Convenors will approve or decline proposed Sections by 1 December 2017. The preliminary allocation of Panels in each Section is determined by the Academic Convenors. This is subject to confirmation or change in light of the number of Panel/Paper proposals received before the final review in March 2018.
Proposers will be notified by ECPR of the outcome of their Section submission in early December 2017. If you have not received notification by the end of December 2017, contact the Events Team. Queries regarding the academic content of the proposed Section should be addressed to the Academic Convenors via the Events Team before the 15 November 2017 deadline.
The second stage of the process is open to anyone wishing to propose a complete Panel with Papers, and those wanting to propose individual Papers to a particular Section. Panels provisionally proposed as part of approved Sections must also be submitted through this procedure. Panels should include 3–5 Papers. Panel proposers need not belong to an ECPR member institution, but they must hold a MyECPR account.
The process for submitting Panel and Paper proposals can be found on How to Participate. An Open Section welcomes full Panel and individual Paper proposals that do not fit into any of the listed Sections.
The deadline to submit complete Panels (with Papers) and individual Paper proposals is 15 February 2018 (midnight UK time).
From 1 December 2017, Section Chairs can view Panels and Papers being proposed to their Section via their MyECPR account. From 16 February 2018 the Academic Convenors will review the number of Panels/Papers received and will determine the number of Panels per Section. Please note that some Sections may be requested to reduce the number of Panels or accept additional Panels by the Academic Convenors.
From 20 February 2018, Section Chairs may approve/decline/reserve Panel and Paper proposals in their Section. Section Chairs have until 12 March 2018 to finalise their Sections via MyECPR.
Section Chairs are expected to evaluate all Panel and individual Paper proposals in their Section; to allocate individual Paper proposals to Panels and, where appropriate, to form Panels out of individual Paper proposals. It is the Section Chairs' responsibility to allocate Chairs and Discussants for Panels in a Section.
When evaluating Panels and Papers, Section Chairs should consider the quality of the proposal and the fit with the Section theme.
From 13 March 2018 the Academic Convenors will review approved Panels and Papers to finalise the Academic Programme. The deadline for Academic Convenors to complete their review is 30 March 2018.
The Academic Convenors may use their discretion to reallocate Panels and Papers to other Sections and Panels as required. Section Chairs may, therefore, be asked to accommodate new Panels in their Sections, and Panel Chairs may be asked to accommodate extra Papers within their Panels. Similarly, Section Chairs may also be asked to reduce the number of their Panels and rearrange their Papers accordingly.
Section Chairs, Panel Chairs, and Paper presenters will be contacted with the Academic Convenors' decision in early April 2018. If your Panel or Paper has been marked as reserved, ECPR will contact you as soon as possible if a space becomes available in the programme. Unfortunately it is not possible to determine when this will be.
The Academic Programme will be available on the ECPR website by 3 April 2018 and participants will be notified of the outcome of their proposal by this date. A full timetable will be published by late May 2018.
Amendments to Section/Panel/Paper information must be sent to the Events Team by 2 July 2018 in order to be included in the printed programme.
Online registration opens on 2 April 2018. Further details, including registration fees, will be on the ECPR website in due course; please check our cancellation policy. Participants attending and appearing in any capacity in the Academic Programme must register and pay before midnight UK time on 21 May 2018. Registration and payment takes place through MyECPR. Anyone who has not registered and paid by this date will be withdrawn from the conference and replaced.
To receive a print copy of the programme, tick the box in the online registration form.
Approved Papers can be uploaded to the ECPR website via the Presenter's MyECPR account from 1 May 2018. Only the person listed as Presenter can do this. Papers should be in PDF format, in English. To specify preferences and presentation times, contact your Panel Chair directly. Please upload or circulate your Paper to fellow Panellists by 20 August 2018 so they have time to prepare comments and questions.
Please be aware that uploading your Paper via MyECPR constitutes agreement for ECPR to publish the Paper on its website and the associated mobile App.
Panels are scheduled in eleven time slots commencing 09:00 on Thursday 23 August and concluding at 17:40 on Saturday 25 August 2018. Participants should ensure their availability for ALL eleven time slots.
Once the timetable has been completed, Official Representatives or their alternates should check the timetable for any clashes with the Council Meeting and contact the Events Team as soon as possible to see if the Panel can be rescheduled at a more appropriate time.
Visas are the responsibility of the individual. Find out more. Visa letters will be supplied on request only when we have received the registration fee in full and the seven-day cooling-off period has passed.
