In the era of permacrisis, complexity and urgency have become common features of policy-making, challenging both the design of policies and their accountability. This event aims to discuss the ever-increasing demands for policymakers, covering everything from how expertise can be best incorporated into the policy cycle to develop efficient and decisive policy responses to the increasingly complex policy problems that often surpass the national level.
Convened by our professional journal European Political Science (EPS) in collaboration with the EUI School of Transnational Governance, this debate will discuss and link issues such as the role of experts in policy-making, evidence-informed policy-making, public policy co-creation, and democratic accountability.
The panellists will draw special attention to the role of political scientists, and other experts when acting as government advisors during crisis. They will explore how expert advice and democratic accountability can co-exist when multiple levels of governance should work together to respond to global challenges such as climate crisis or fast-paced technological developments.
All instalments in our House Series are FREE to attend and open to scholars from ECPR Member and non-Member institutions.
The House Series is FREE to attend and open to scholars from all institutions. Please note this event is hosted by the European Institute University (EUI) and therefore registration is required through their website. You'll need an EUI account to register for the event.
