About

This course offers the foundational knowledge and skills for analysing quantitative data in political science research. You will learn the fundamentals of statistical inference, including population and sample relationships, variable types, distributions, hypothesis testing, and effect size analysis. By the end of this course, you will have a solid understanding of the main concepts and methods used in quantitative political science research.

The course is delivered using a combination of pre-class activities, live online interaction and post-class activities. Daily three-hour live sessions (on Zoom) will feature class discussions, Q&A, group exercises and tutorials on the application of statistical methods. You will use freely available software such as web apps and spreadsheets.

No prerequisite knowledge is required for this course beyond basic addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.

ECTS Credits

3 ECTS credits awarded for engaging fully in class activities.
1 additional ECTS credit awarded for completing a post-course assignment.

Instructor

Cristina Mitrea is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj, Romania. She earned her PhD in comparative politics at the Central European University. Her research interests lie in the fields of political behaviour and political socialisation.
