The Global Risk Report 2023 of the World Economic Forum draws a map that shows how several global risks and crises are intertwined – a potential polycrisis, as argued by historian Adam Tooze. In this mapping, it is challenging to find an area that doesn't pertain to the Mediterranean, particularly in its Southern countries, encompassing (geo-)political, social, economic, environmental, and technology-related risks.
Our Research Network on Mediterranean Politics and Society is excited to launch its new seminar series dedicated to sharing in-depth analyses of ongoing crises of various issue fields unfolding in the Mediterranean. It seeks to facilitate a dialogue on the interconnectedness of these crises and possible future scenarios, as well as on the responsibility of political elites on both sides of the Mediterranean Sea. Read more.
Don't miss this opportunity to connect, learn, and contribute to our understanding of the intricate play of global risks and crises impacting the Mediterranean region.
The event is open to anyone interested in research exploring issues in Mediterranean politics and society, completely FREE!
Registration is required but you'll only need to register once for the entire series. You’ll need a My ECPR account to register.
The ECPR Mediterranean Politics and Society Research Network (MEDNET) brings together a wide range of scholarly activities and events focusing on the Mediterranean region.
It is a research network for academics from Europe, the Mediterranean region and the wider world aiming to promote the study of the contemporary Mediterranean world from a plurality of disciplinary fields, including politics, sociology, anthropology, economy, international relations, religious studies, and human geography.
Convened and chaired by Sarah Wolff of Leiden University and Irene Weipert-Fenner of Peace Research Institute Frankfurt, the seminars provide a platform for scholars to showcase ongoing research to a diverse audience and to receive valuable feedback from seasoned discussants.
We encourage applications from scholars at all stages and see this as an opportunity to expand the Research Network, help scholars learn about other areas of research, forge meaningful connections, and nurture future collaborations.
If you'd like to take advantage of this exciting opportunity, please get in touch with the series convenors.
